Case Study: A Modern Outdoor Remodel in Paradise Valley

When we were brought in to reimagine this Paradise Valley property, the vision was clear: modern lines, timeless materials, and a seamless connection between architecture and landscape. This wasn’t a blank canvas—it was a complete outdoor remodel, following a full interior renovation completed the year prior. The result is a prime example of how thoughtful landscape design can extend the language of a home outward, creating a luxurious environment that feels cohesive, intentional, and deeply livable.

This case study walks through the full transformation - step by step.

Design Objectives + Client Vision

This was a full-property transformation, following a complete interior remodel completed the year prior. The homeowners wanted the exterior to reflect the same level of cohesion, clarity, and refinement as the newly updated interiors. While they chose to keep the general shape of the existing pool, the rest of the outdoor space was reimagined from the ground up.

They envisioned clean symmetry, a restrained material palette, and distinct zones for gathering, relaxing, and entertaining—all working in harmony with the home’s architecture.

Key priorities included:

  • A refined, architectural pool with simple geometric lines

  • A sunken fire lounge for evening entertaining

  • Integrated shade and privacy solutions without clutter

  • A seamless visual and spatial connection between interior and exterior zones

Before

Design Process + Spatial Planning

We structured the rear yard into three primary zones:

  1. Pool + Spa Axis – Central and symmetrical, acting as the visual anchor of the yard

  2. Fire Pit Lounge – Slightly sunken with built-in seating and indirect lighting for mood and function

  3. Dining + Entertaining Pavilion – Framed by a clean-lined pergola and softened by plantings, positioned for easy indoor-outdoor flow

Design

Materiality + Details

The palette for this project is restrained, refined, and timeless:

  • Oversized porcelain pavers in soft tones

  • Minimalist Dekton bar that adds a touch of contrast

  • A backlit quartz fire pit with a natural stone cap

  • Subdued planting with layered textures and seasonal contrast

Every material was selected to feel quietly luxurious and architecturally consistent. The result is a palette that doesn’t compete with the home, but elevates it.

Final Results + Highlights

The finished space offers a seamless blend of form, function, and restraint. Every outdoor zone supports the way the homeowners live, while the landscape design reinforces the clean lines and material integrity of the home itself.

Highlights include:

  • Simplified but architectural pool and spa layout while maintaining a WOW factor water feature

  • Custom outdoor kitchen and bar, integrated for effortless entertaining

  • Outdoor lounge built for four-season entertaining

  • Hardscape details that extend the modern interior language outdoors

  • Plantings that are sculptural, low-maintenance, and climate-appropriate

“This project reflects our belief that luxury doesn’t mean excess - it means clarity, intentionality, and balance.”
